About St. Elias's
Chariot of Fire

The Prophet Elias, also known in the Hebrew Bible as Elijah, uniquely appears to us in both the Old and New Testament.  There are many symbols associated with St. Elias, but one special marker is his fiery chariot.  In 2 Kings 2, we read "that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them [Elijah and Elisha]; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven."

At. St. Elias Orthodox Church, and many other Orthodox Christian Churches across the globe, it has become a tradition to bless "chariots" on the Feast Day of St. Elias, July 20.  That means you'll find our priest blessing the cars, trucks, bikes, and scooters of parishioners' on and around July 20!
